Invention Village

How we handle your unfiled invention

An invention you have not filed yet is the most sensitive thing you can give us. This page sets out where it goes, who processes it and how long we keep it on our international site, thesmartpatent.com.

The short answer

  • Patent drafting does not save your disclosure or your draft to our database. Both sit in a temporary cache for up to 24 hours so you can reconnect to a running job, and are then deleted. Export your Word file before you leave.
  • Your text is processed by the AI providers listed below through paid APIs. Every request we send through OpenRouter is restricted to providers that do not collect request data.
  • Patent and literature search services receive search keywords taken from your text, never sentences of it.
  • We do not use your content to train AI models.

What we keep, and for how long

Patent drafting
Your disclosure, uploaded figures and the draft stay in a temporary cache for up to 24 hours, then are deleted. Our database keeps only a record that you confirmed the disclosure reflects real R&D (the date, settings and a run number, not the content).
Other tools
Results of tools such as FTO screening, patentability assessment and R&D roadmaps are saved to your run history. Runs that cost no credits are deleted after 90 days, runs filed under an R&D project are kept as long as the project, and paid runs are kept until you delete them.
Full FTO reports
Kept as the record of your purchase. Deleting the run removes it from your history; to delete the report itself, email us.
Document translation
The uploaded source file is kept for 24 hours and the translated file for 7 days so you can download it again; both are then deleted automatically.
Temporary files
Files created while converting documents are deleted when the conversion finishes.

Who processes your text

These companies process your content on our behalf, only to complete the request you made.

Google
Gemini API for drafting, review and analysis; Vertex AI embeddings and BigQuery for patent search, run inside our own Google Cloud project.
Anthropic (Claude), via OpenRouter
Parts of drafting and the cross-model review included with every draft on this site.
OpenAI, via OpenRouter
Placing reference numerals on drawings, and reading figures when the primary model is unavailable.
TypeSafe (Jev), via OpenRouter
Scores how natural drafted prose reads. It sees passages of the draft, not your uploaded files, and generates no text.
Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (Singapore)
Text recognition on scanned pages and images, and a backup text model.
OpenRouter
Routes the requests marked "via OpenRouter". Each request we send carries a setting that limits routing to providers that do not collect request data.

Search services — Google Programmable Search, the European Patent Office's Open Patent Services and OpenAlex — receive search keywords, not your sentences.

Training

We do not train models on your content. The paid APIs we use do not use API content for model training under their terms, and our OpenRouter requests exclude providers that collect request data. Provider terms can change; we check them when we change models.

Who at Invention Village can see it

Our admin tools show account-level facts such as dates, tools used and credit balances, not your disclosures or results. Our application logs are written to record sizes and counts rather than your text. Access to production data is limited to the people who run the service.

Deleting your data

You can delete any entry in your run history at any time. To delete your account and the data linked to it, use Delete account in the mobile app or email [email protected]. We complete deletion within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep a record.

Before you upload

If your company has an IP or information-security policy, check it first. If you are unsure whether to share an invention before filing, ask your patent attorney; we cannot advise on your situation.

Questions

Is my invention disclosure used to train AI models?
No. We do not train models on your content, the paid APIs we use do not train on API content under their terms, and every request we send through OpenRouter is limited to providers that do not collect request data.
How long does Invention Village keep my disclosure?
Patent drafting keeps your disclosure and draft in a temporary cache for up to 24 hours and does not save them to our database. Results of other tools stay in your run history: runs that cost no credits for 90 days, paid runs until you delete them.
Which companies process my invention?
Google (Gemini API, plus Vertex AI and BigQuery in our own project), Anthropic and OpenAI through OpenRouter, TypeSafe through OpenRouter for scoring drafted prose, and Alibaba Cloud Model Studio in Singapore for text recognition.
Do search engines see my invention?
Patent and literature search services receive search keywords taken from your text, never sentences of it.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Delete individual runs from your run history at any time, or delete your account in the mobile app or by email; deletion is completed within 30 days.
